Today's Healthcare Heroes | Carrie Fredrick, Clinical Assistant Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
June 2, 2022
What is your position/department?
I work as a Clinic Assistant in the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
What does a typical day look like in your position?
A typical day at the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine will look busy but smooth. The phone rings throughout the day with patients needing attention. Whether it is to schedule an appointment, get a refill on a RX, ask a medical question, or at times just to confirm an appointment. I answer those calls, scan in documentation to a patient’s file, route calls, handle faxes, and complete tasks for our Doctors, Physician Assistant’s, RN's, and MA’s.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
My first day at Watertown Regional Medical Center was August 16th, 2021. This is my first career change in 23 years. Prior to coming here I managed many different Chiropractic Clinics since 1999. Before that I managed our family business, Jerry’s North Bowl.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I love anything medical and honestly, I've wanted to work at Watertown Regional Medical Center for many years. My Aunt, Carol Peters, was in the surgical department for 50 years. So, I would say that she was my inspiration!
What’s new in your department? Are there any new technologies being utilized?
I would say the newest technology we have is our medical software, Athena. This is where all of our patient information is stored. It's also what patients utilize for a patient portal and can use to send messages, view information, and review and pay bills. Patients also use Athena when logging in for Telehealth appointments.
Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for safe and quality care?
I believe patients can look forward to genuine, empathetic, professional, and quality care at Watertown Regional Medical Center. I can confidentially say that because I have been a patient here many times.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
What I enjoy the most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center is the wonderful staff that I work with. Every one of our Doctor’s, PA’s (Physician Assistant); Nurses, MA’s, Clinic Assistant’s, and Managers are extremely helpful. I genuinely enjoy coming to work.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem in the Watertown area? (Example: Restaurant, park, activity)
My interests outside of work are tennis, spending time with my grandkids, camping, and reading. My favorite local gem is Amado JR’s. I love Mexican food!
