What is your official Title?
Registered Medical Assistant - Waterloo Clinic
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I started with Watertown Regional Medical Center in 2008. Before moving to the Waterloo Clinic in 2017, I worked as a CNA in the hospital on the inpatient floor, heart & vascular and other speciality centers.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
I especially enjoy working in Waterloo, which is where I live and grew up. It is satisfying to give back to the community you grew up in and the people you grew up with. It’s a small community where everyone is invested in each other and I enjoy helping people I know.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always enjoyed taking care of and helping people and the healthcare industry provides a great way to do this. Before I started with Watertown Regional Medical Center, I worked at the school district as a paraprofessional, helping people with special needs. When I decided to switch careers and get into healthcare, the inispiration came from my aunt, who was a nurse.
What would you say to somebody wanting to get into your profession?
Working in healthcare is very rewarding. People trust you and come to you for help so it leaves you with a good feeling. If you're looking for a new career, you can obtain your RMA online. It’s a great option for people that work full time but are looking to further their education in the healthcare field.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I love to traveling and spend time with my family. I have especially enjoyed my trips to Hawaii and Florida.
What is your favorite place in the Waterloo area?
I do a lot of walking at Fireman’s Park and the Garmen Nature Preserve.
What are you doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
I avoid large gatherings and make sure to follow recommended guidelines like washing my hands, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
