What is your role and department?
I work as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) which means I provide anesthesia during surgery and procedures.
What does a typical day look like in your position?
I provide multiple types of anesthesia including general, spinal, and pain blocks care across all age groups and for a variety of different surgeries and procedures.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I've been a CRNA at Watertown Regional Medical Center for 2.5 years.
Why did you choose your profession?
I enjoy making others feel relaxed and well cared for during their procedures. I also enjoy the autonomy that CRNA's have compared to other nursing roles.
What’s new in your department? Are there any new technologies being utilized?
We employ a wide variety of pain/nerve blocks and are always looking at ways we can improve our processes.
Teamwork and communication are important to providing safe and quality care, what other departments do you work closely with?
As CRNA's, we work closest with all of the surgery department employees and the OB department.
How does your department contribute to the quality of care provided at WRMC?
We play an important role in patient care and safety. We provide quality anesthesia care to help ensure patients are comfortable before and during procedures and as they heal during post-op care.
If you weren’t a CRNA, what would you want to do/be?
I would love to restore old homes.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I enjoy boating, reading, travel, hockey, and spending time with my family.
What is your favorite local gem in the Watertown area? (Example: Restaurant, park, activity)
I like Mullen's Dairy Bar and Riverside Park.
