What is your role and department?
I currently work as an RN in Radiology, as the Vein Clinic Coordinator, and as the Nurse Navigator for Breast Cancer Care.
What does a typical day look like in your position?
My workload and where you'll find me is highly variable from one day to the next. You'll find me up at the hospital when I have sedation cases for ultrasound or CT in the radiology department and some of our breast biopsies or other breast procedures are also done at the hospital.
However, on most days I can be found at the Center for Women's Health where I schedule patients for breast biopsies and get them checked in on the day of their biopsy. I also assist patients with coordinating care beyond their diagnosis of breast cancer. I am also at the Center for Women's Health when I'm helping Vein Clinic patients. I assist with their office visits, procedures, or am behind the phone working on scheduling. My days are filled with variety which keeps me motivated.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been with Watertown Regional Medical Center for 10 years. I worked in Occupational Health from 2011 until 2017, when I became part of the radiology department.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always loved people and taking care of them was natural for me.
What’s new in your department? Are there any new technologies being utilized?
The technology in the Vein Clinic is very innovative opposed to traditional stripping. There are also some newer options for treating veins like Varithena, an injectable foam sclerotherapy. On the breast health side of things, mammograms at Watertown Regional Medical Center are 3D. This has enhanced our ability to detect breast cancers early and decreases false positives which reduces "call-backs" and unneeded stress.
Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for safe and quality care?
We care about our patients and our community’s health and wellness. We focus on individualized treatment plans to meet our patients needs.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
My coworkers. We may be at work and it will always have challenges but I work with people who care and show genuine concern to get through the rough patches. We laugh and joke daily and keep smiling.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem in the Watertown area?
I love to garden, golf, and just be outside!!! I love grabbing a drink at the Drafty Cellar on Fridays after work with friends. Gasthaus is a favorite spot for food
