What is your position and department?
I am a Registered Nurse (RN) in the CRC-Float pool.
What does a typical day look like in your position?
This depends on the day. CRC-Float means I get to work and go where help is needed. Depending on what areas that I am trained in. As long as you are trained (to that department) you can get sent at any time. There have been days where I have been sent to three different departments. You always have to be ready.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been with Watertown Regional Medical Center for two years and have always been in the float pool. I like the challenges it presents and the unpredictability from day to day.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I've been in healthcare for almost 20 years now and there have been times that I thought I should get a new job but I love being a nurse! I was going to get out of nursing all together in 2018, after my mother died, but she made me promise in her last days on earth to continue nursing and take care of people and "pretend they are your mother". God has blessed me with the gift of being a nurse everyday!
What’s new in your department? Are there any new technologies being utilized?
In the Emergency Department, the nurses are learning to perform IV's with ultrasound for easier placement and we have a new glide scope which helps with difficult airway management. We also continue to offer Telestroke care which gives us the ability to consult with UW Health stroke neurologists for quick diagnosis and treatment.
Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for safe and quality care?
I would say our standards of care and compassion are above many others in the area. I can only speak for myself, but I love my job and the people that come in and out of my life everyday. The fact that we are a five-star CMS hospital and continue to receive an "A" grade for safety by the LeapFrog group backs up these claims.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
I have to toot the horn of my co-workers. Everyone is kind and hard-working, it makes coming to work everyday easier.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem in the Watertown area?
I really enjoy spending time with my family and love the outdoors and exercising. My favorite local gems would have to be the two pizza restaurants that my family owns/runs. James Street Pizza in Columbus and Pammy's Pizzeria in Jefferson. If you haven't tried them, stop by anytime!
