What is your position and department?
I am a Clinical Assistant in Directions Counseling.
What does a typical day look like in your position?
I generally work from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the front desk of Directions Counseling. I greet people and check them in, answer phone calls, and do a variety of clerical tasks in my down time.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I've been working at Watertown Regional Medical Center clinics for 5 years with all but one year being at Directions Counseling. The other year was spent at the Lake Mills clinic. Prior to working at the clinics, I was a Health Unit Clerk on the inpatient floors.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always enjoyed the healthcare setting and started working as a CNA right out of high school. I really enjoyed my time as a Health Unit Clerk and having the knowledge that that I am helping people get better. I get that same sense of accomplishment helping people with their mental health needs at Directions Counseling.
What’s new in your department? Are there any new technologies being utilized?
Last year we switched to a new EMR system, Athena Health. Although change can be challenging, the benefits of this EMR for our patients are well worth it. Athena gives patients the ability to view their health information on their computer or phone and allows them to participate in telehealth appointments. It's a great system and I encourage all clinic patients to take advantage of it!
Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for safe and quality care?
From personal experience, working here and also being a patient multiple times, the people who work here are so kind and professional. I never have a bad experience.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
I enjoy getting to work with kind and professional people across all departments. I also like the fact that you get the small town feel while still having access to advanced technology and specialty services.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem in the Watertown area?
I have traveled to Korea and Japan multiple times and am a Korean pop and Korean drama addict! I also really enjoy taking my daughter's golden lab on dog walks at Brandt Quirk Park dog trails. It is such a wooded and scenic area with lots of wind breaks so even windy, cold days are pleasant there.
