Dr. Susie Drake Now Offering Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) at the Center for Eye Care in Watertown
September 12, 2024
Watertown, WI - The Center for Eye Care in Watertown is excited to announce that Dr. Susie Drake, MD, now offers Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) right here in Watertown. MIGS represents a significant advancement in glaucoma treatment, providing patients with a less invasive surgical option for managing the disease without needing to travel outside the community.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide and is often linked to elevated eye pressure that can cause a progressive loss of peripheral vision. Traditional methods for glaucoma treatment include the use of eye drops or laser therapy to lower eye pressure. When these non-surgical treatments are no longer sufficient, patients typically require invasive glaucoma surgery.
The introduction of MIGS offers an intermediate, less invasive option, bridging the gap between non-surgical treatments and more complex surgical interventions. Dr. Drake is excited to offer this advanced treatment to patients in Watertown and has already completed her first cases.
“MIGS has truly revolutionized the way we approach glaucoma treatment,” said Dr. Drake. “It’s an exciting step forward, giving patients access to a procedure that can help preserve their vision without the need for a more invasive surgery. I’m thrilled to bring this cutting-edge technique to our patients in Watertown.”
The Center for Eye Care is a comprehensive eye care clinic, located at 123 Hospital Drive in the Medical Office Building attached to Watertown Regional Medical Center. Their goal is to provide local access to medical, surgical, and technological solutions for all of your eye care needs.
In addition to MIGS, services offered at the Center for Eye Care include routine, diabetic, children's, and comprehensive eye exams, cornea transplantation, laser assist cataract surgery, and treatment for cornea and ocular disease, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachment, and diabetic retinopathy. Joining Dr. Drake in the clinic are board-certified ophthalmologist Sheila Sullivan, DO, board-certified retina specialist, Jay Met, MD, and optometrist Lexi Derry, DO.
