Here for Outstanding Care - Marty's Story
August 20, 2024
Marty Mariott’s career and personal life are deeply intertwined with Maranatha Baptist University and the City of Watertown. His roots with Maranatha stretch back to 1974 when he was a student and continue today as Chancellor of the University.
Marty’s medical journey also has deep ties to Watertown. Since 2009, he’s been treated for various conditions and has routinely been seen for heart related issues. The care he receives has always remained tremendous.
“My first encounter with Dr. Goyal, a hospitalist at Watertown Regional Medical Center, was incredibly positive,” said Marty. “This set a foundation of trust and confidence in the care provided at Watertown Regional Medical Center.”
Since this first encounter, Marty’s health has been marked by multiple instances of congestive heart failure, with the third and most recent episode, on May 28th, being the most serious.
“Despite my efforts to stay ahead of the fluid buildup with medications, I found myself in the emergency department,” said Marty. “My experience at Watertown was outstanding. From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff quickly admitted me and provided my wife and I with comfort.”
Dr. Rodriguez and his team of nurses and techs were incredibly encouraging and supportive to Marty’s wife, daughter, and granddaughter. They worked swiftly to determine his diagnosis of pulmonary edema and initiated treatment before getting him airlifted to Madison for life-saving procedures.
“My brother, an ER physician, monitored my condition through updates from my daughter and granddaughter and reassured everyone that the care I was receiving, and the steps taken by the team at Watertown Regional Medical Center were exemplary,” said Marty.
Dr. Rodriguez's quick and informed decisions during this critical moment, especially regarding ventilation, were crucial. He guided Marty’s wife through each step, keeping her informed and supported. His family noted the personal and professional care they received.
“This experience has profoundly impacted my life and my family's. My wife recently needed an EGD and colonoscopy, and we had no question where we wanted to get it done. The level of care she received mirrored mine and remained consistently positive,” said Marty. “As a family, we have felt well taken care of and I continue to share my positive experiences with others, countering any negative perceptions about the hospital.”
In addition to Dr. Goyal and Dr. Rodriguez, some of the people Marty wanted to recognize included Courtney Mueller, Krista McVicar, and Sydney Linskens. Each of whom were particularly remarkable in their care and professionalism.
